We love to kick start our new topics with an engage event - this allows the children to participate in a themed day linked to the new topic. It inspires children to explore lots of different aspects of the new topic through a wide range of exciting play-based activities.
Autumn Engage Event - Celebrations!
1st November 2021
To kick start our new topic 'Celebrations', the children were invited to attend school in Halloween fancy dress to participate in a Halloween themed engage day.
The children explored the inside of a pumpkin which provided a language rich opportunity for children to develop their vocabulary. The children also developed their fine motor skills during this activity by trying to pick up the seeds using their fingers.
The children explored a messy play tray of different textures and smells, allowing children to develop their expressive language and their fine motor skills by moving the different items.
A Halloween themed maths area promoted touch counting skills and children were also able to identify and match the number of objects to the correct numeral.
A range of Halloween themed enhancements in the role-play area captured children's interests and allowed them to recall and act out scenarios to reflect their own experiences of Halloween such as a tea party and trick or treating.
The children rounded off their day with a special drama session linked to Halloween which was provided by Ceri. The children had lots of fun as this was the first time they had experienced a drama session with Ceri.
