Sports Day at Home
A letter to all our children working at home...
Hello to all our ‘Working from Home Learners’,
Next week is when we were supposed to be holding our Sports Morning for Early Years and our Sports Afternoon for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. During next week, I would like all of you children at home to complete a set of challenges. It would be amazing if you could then send me any videos and photos to share on the PE page and your results.
If you are in Year 2, 3, 4 or 5 and are coming into school for our Outdoor Learning session, then you will complete these in school next week.
There are 6 challenges for all the children to complete. The ‘at home’ version of activities can be seen below:
- Not quite an egg and spoon race - How many laps of a 5m area can you do in 1 minute without dropping the object on your spoon?
- How many times can you bounce a ball of socks on a frying pan before it falls off?
- Speedbounce over a rolled up towel - How many times can you jump over the towel in 20 seconds (Foundation Stage), 30 seconds (KS1), 40 seconds (KS2)?
- 5m Shuttle Run - using people/garden chairs/gnomes/tins/etc. as your markers. - How long does it take you to run 50m/10 laps (Key Stage 2), 30m/6 laps (Key Stage 1), 20m/4 laps (Foundation Stage)?
- Throw and clap - How many times can you clap between throwing a sock ball and catching it again?
- Target Throw - How many times can you throw a sock ball into a saucepan or a scrunched up piece of paper into a cup in 1 minute?
I would like you to compete in your house teams, like we usually do, so please can I ask that you wear your house colour when completing the challenges. Alternatively, you could decorate your old plain white PE t-shirt with your house colours in preparation for that day.
There will be a video uploaded on Monday morning to demonstrate all of the challenges, whether you are at school or home. I will collect all the results from school and join this with the results from home and then we will have some rewards during the following week. Good luck everyone! We can’t wait to see all of your challenges.

Year 5/6 Indoor Athletics Competition

Thursday 23rd January 2020
On Thursday afternoon, eighteen children from Year 5/6 represented the school in the Doncaster School Games Indoor Athletics competition at Dearne Valley Leisure Centre. The field events were target throw, seated throw, standing long jump, speedbounce and chest push.
There were 11 teams competing in total, with only 3 teams qualifying for the finals so it was a tough competition. We were in a heat against the current Doncaster champions. Individually, we won some races in our heat but until all results were in we had no way of knowing where we would finish. We are yet to find out where we finished but we did not qualify for the Doncaster finals this time. Well done to all the children for trying their best.
