World Book Day Week

To celebrate World Book Day and to help raise money for school, we invited children to participate in a reading event. We teamed up with Scholastic to hold the ‘All Booked Up: Reading Challenge’ at Barnburgh Primary School.

As part of the challenge, we asked all children to get sponsored to read as much as they can during the week of World Book Day. This was from Monday 1st March until Sunday 7th March. This included in school time (including remote school) and at home. Children of all ages spent time reading to raise funds for books. Reading does not just mean books; it could be comics, magazines, newspapers, menus, recipes, poems, leaflets, instructions – anything with words. For younger children, this included a sponsored sit and listen time. Children also combined both reading and sit and listen time for the sponsored event. The total number of minutes spent reading (or listening to reading) was recorded on the children's Reading Logs.

As part of this sponsored event, teachers planned activities for their own classes. During this day, whether children were learning in school or at home, we invited everyone to wear their pyjamas/comfortable clothes ready to enjoy reading.

Following the week, sponsorship money was collected and handed in to class teachers with their completed Sponsorship Form. We raised a massive £1,917 This will benefit the children who supported the event and the school.

All the children who raised money during the Sponsored Read were able to choose their own book to take home. Here are their selections...

We love our new books!

Sponsor Form and Reading Log

Early years love celebrating world book day.

We enjoyed making a fruit salad as we have been reading The very hungry caterpillar. Then we enjoyed eating it at snack time.

Our learners at home enjoyed zooming in for a story with Mrs Potts.

We enjoyed reading our favourite books in our comfy clothes.

Early Years Learning

Year 1- Our friends learning remotely and in school have enjoyed different activities linked to World Book Day.

Ks1 paired readers.

Year 4 enjoying their independent reading

The Masked Reader

For World Book Day, children in Year 5 and Year 6 chose an extract from a book and read it. They disguised their face and voice. Watch the videos to see if you can guess who it is and what book they are reading.
