World Nursery Rhyme Week

This event is aimed at young children in EYFS and Year 1. During the week the children are encouraged to focus on various rhymes (one a day)

The 5 rhymes for 2021 are:

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

Incy Wincy Spider

Wind The Bobbin

Down In The Jungle

Sleeping Bunnies

(These can be found on the official website if you’re unsure of any)

World Nursery Rhyme week is aimed to provide  a week full of activities designed to explore the three key areas of skill development:

  •  vocabulary, language and literacy skills
  •  numeracy skills
  •  social, physical and emotional skills

The central element of the week is the Rhyme-A-Day Challenge but there is an encouragement to use the week to read around the core elements with children to show how much fun nursery rhymes can be and how an interest in reading, rhyming and song can be a great thing to develop.

Early Years

Nursery and Reception have enjoyed singing lots of nursery rhymes this week with a focus on the 5 songs chosen for World Nursery Rhyme Week. Nursery rhymes are the perfect way to engage children in communicating and help develop speaking skills.

Year One

Year 1 have enjoyed singing lots of nursery rhymes this week with a focus on the 5 songs chosen for World Nursery Rhyme Week. Nursery rhymes provide the opportunity to develop children's  speaking, listening and reading skills.

The children were encouraged to familiarize themselves with the nursery rhyme by reading lyrics and listening. They were then given the opportunity to perform as a class.
