COMPETITIONS 2022
On this page you will find all the competition information for competitions in 2022.
KS2 Boccia
On Thursday 10th March, seventeen children from Key Stage 2 represented the school in a competition for Boccia. The children headed to Rossington All Saints School to compete against lots of other teams. The children were in teams of 4/5 players. Each team competed in heats against other teams. All children played their best. At the end of the heats, the top three teams were announced. These three teams played off for a place in the final. One of our Barnburgh teams were lucky enough to be in the play off for the final. Unfortunately, they were knocked out at this stage, finishing 3rd overall. A very good achievement.
Year 3/4 Dodgeball
On Monday 14th March, twenty children from year 3/4 competed in a Dodgeball competition ran by Mr Nichols from Xcite. They travelled all the way to Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School to compete against two other schools. There were five teams in total. After all the teams played each other, our Barnburgh A team were through to the finals. Barnburgh B had a semi-final playoff to see if they could also be in the final. Unfortunately, the other team won meaning Barnburgh B finished 3rd overall. Barnburgh A played in the final and won, meaning they finished first overall. A fantastic achievement for both teams!
Year 3/4 Basketball
On Tuesday 15th March, sixteen children from year 3/4 represented the school in a pyramid Basketball workshop and competition. This was held at our pyramid Secondary school, Ridgewood. Only one other school attended, making three teams in total. Young Sports Leaders from Ridgewood helped the teams to prepare by organising warm up games and then we all took part in four activities. These were focussed on skills needed in Basketball: passing, dribbling, shooting and ball familiarisation. Following these skills stations, we all played each other. Barnburgh B lost both of their games earning 2 points. Barnburgh A won 1 and lost 1 of their games earning 4 points. Copley (the other team) won both games earning 6 points. We finished 2nd and 3rd place overall. A great achievement.
Year 4/5 Swimming
On Wednesday 23rd March, twelve children from year 4/5 competed in the South Yorkshire Finals for swimming. We got through to the finals as we were the only team in Doncaster willing to compete. Joining us at the competition were the two best teams in Barnsley, the best team in Rotherham and three of the best teams in Sheffield. The way the competition was organised meant we had 6 children racing in ‘advanced’ races and 6 children racing in ‘foundation’ races. All the foundation swimmers had to swim with a float. For our races we had:
Girl’s Advanced Freestyle - Betsy
Girl’s Foundation Freestyle - Ateesha
Girl’s Advanced Backstroke - Eva
Girl’s Foundation Backstroke - Milly
Girl’s Advanced Breaststroke - Annie
Girl’s Foundation Breaststroke - Maddison
Girl’s Relay - Eva, Betsy, Maddison and Ateesha
Girl’s Paired Race- Annie and Milly.
Boy’s Advanced Freestyle - Charlie
Boy’s Foundation Freestyle - Zac
Boy’s Advanced Backstroke - Kaiden
Boy’s Foundation Backstroke - Obaid
Boy’s Advanced Breaststroke - Harry
Boy’s Foundation Breaststroke - Bobby
Boy’s Relay - Bobby, Harry, Obaid, Charlie.
Boy’s Paired Race - Kaiden and Zac.
The races were ran in two heats so although we were winning or finishing 2nd in a lot of the first races, we weren’t sure where we were ranking due to times. After all the races, we found out we finished 2nd overall with 76 points in total. This means we are the 2nd best team in the whole of South Yorkshire - a massive achievement!
