Autumn 2 - Time Traveller

Tick, tock, tick, tock. The hands on the clock never stop. From the moment we are born, from toddler to teen, middle age to elderly, time stops for no man. Find out what happens to our bodies and brains as we grow older, and how we cope with these changes. How long does a human baby take to grow inside the womb? Does it take longer than an elephant calf? Or a kitten? Take a good look at yourself. How has your face changed since you were a baby and how will it change as you grow older? Can you photograph it, change it, age it? And what would happen if the clock struck 13? In Tom’s Midnight Garden, he travels to the past. Imagine that you could time travel too. When would you like to travel to and what would you like to see? Will you head back to your past or into your future? You decide.

02/11/21 ENGAGE AFTERNOON: We had an engage afternoon to hook us into our new topic. During the afternoon, we learnt about composition, colour, light and shade in photography and used a computer program to edit close up photographs of our faces. We adjusted some of these to see how they effected the image.

11/11/2021: DEVELOP: Maths and Science: For Maths Week and Science Day, we combined our skills to learn about how to present population data. We learnt about how population data has changed over the last 60 years and then we used our Maths skills to present this is a line graph.

11/11/2021: Remembrance Day - During the week, we learnt about Remembrance Day by looking at the different poppies that we see in everyday life. We created our own poppies and wore them with pride. We also created some free verse poetry related to war. We used the features we had been learning during the week along with emotive language, imagery and powerful vocabulary to upskill our poems. We shared our learning in assembly with Year 6.

12/11/21 DEVELOP: Science: We learnt that reaction times get longer as we get older. We tested our own reaction times with a game on the computer and using a ruler, measuring the reaction times by where on the ruler we managed to catch it.

19/11/21 Anti-Bullying Week - During the week, we followed the theme of 'one kind word' and all chose a kind word to write down. We will remember these words when we are feeling unhappy. On Monday, we wore odd socks to show we are all unique. We also focussed on cyber bullying as part of our Computing learning. We gave advice to people on how to be safe in different scenarios.
