Autumn 1 - Alchemy Island

What do we know? What do we want to know?

Our magical portals. We used the ipads to take photos of some normal, everyday portals around our school. We thethen used 'Be funky', a photo editing website, to transform those photos into a more magical portal.

Creating their own digital, magical portal

Year 5 tested the properties of different materials and sorted the materials into groups, based on their properties

The children were given aquarium gravel, salt and oil - all in water. It was their challenge to use sieving, filtering and evaporation to try and separate the mixtures

We thought about the uses of the copper found at Copper Nook. One of the ideas was using copper in electrical circuits. Year 5 had a go at making their own circuits

The children were given the same types of solvents, but each group had a different solute - warm water, cold water, lemonade and vinegar. The aim was to see whether a solution could be made. Were the solutes soluble or insoluble?
