Learning to shine together

Spring 2

This half term our topic is GROWING. We are learning about growing plants, The life cycle of frogs, chickens and then Butterflies!

Week 4

This week is British Science Week 2022 and the theme this year is 'Growth.'

In nursery, we have planted cress and are looking forward to observing the changes as the seeds grow.
The children could talk about what the cress would need to grow -

"Seeds need sunshine."
"Seeds need water to grow."
"They need to keep warm."

The children understand that the seeds will not grow if they do not have enough light or water. They also predicted how many days it would take for the seeds to show signs of growth.

We also brought photos of ourselves as babies/toddlers in to school to discuss how much we have changed.

The children could talk confidently about signs of growth and different milestones from birth.

"Babies can't walk when they are born. They learn to crawl and then to walk."
"When I was a baby, my eyes were blue. Now they've changed to green."
"I'm taller (now) than when I was a baby and a toddler."
"First you are a baby, then you are a toddler, then you are a child."
"Babies can't eat food like we do. They have milk first."

Week 3

On Thursday 3rd March we enjoyed celebrating world book day. We LOVED reading with our year 6 buddy's. It was wonderful to finally mix with another class in school and see how, in such a short space of time the Nursery children developed in confidence with their new friends. The year 6 children made us very proud reading to and talking about stories with the children, making them feel comfortable and at ease. We listened to their stories from home, watched books on the smart board on the World book day website. We read a book all about a lady called Maria Montessori. She was the first lady to introduce curiosity and fun into learning. She used games and physical resources to make learning fun and from then on many nursery's and schools followed in her footsteps.

It has been a fun filled day, listening to stories, pretend play and showing our love for reading!!

Week 1 and 2 - "Fee Fi Fo Fum!"

We have been learning the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have been talking about the characters and their favourite parts of the story. They used marks to represent some of their ideas.

Week 1

This week we have been planting beans. The children have learnt about what plants need to be able to grow. In Maths they have been learning to compare amounts. The children compared how many magic beans there were using words like more than, fewer and the same as.
