Autumn 2 - Festivals and Celebrations
This half term we will begin one of my favourite topics ‘CELEBRATIONS’. We kick– started this with our fun, HALLOWEEN ENGAGE dress up day on the last day of term. We will continue with Halloween for the first few days and then move on to learning about Bonfire night, Remembrance day, Diwali and of course Christmas. The children will learn about different celebrations and special days.
Here are a few photos of this weeks learning in Nursery...
This week we have been learning about Diwali (Festival of light) We looked at Rangoli patterns, traditionally made with rice on the floor in the entrance to peoples homes.
In Maths we have been learning about 2D shapes so we created our our Rangoli style pictures using 2D shapes. We recognised and counted how many of each shape we used.
This week has been anti bullying week in school Nursery focused on Friendship and being kind to each other. We made friendship bracelets and shared them with our friends.
In Phonics we enjoyed Dough disco, this helps to develop the muscles in our fingers, this develops our fine motor skills.
We have been practising repeating initial sounds in words using using my turn, your turn. We have alos been orally segmenting and then blending parts of our body. We played a game...Can you touch your f-ee-t, l-i-p-s, t-oe-s, h-ead-d? Can you stand u-p, s-i-t? The children are getting much better at hearing the sounds when we blend them together.
Phew...another busy week!
Nursery have been enjoying our new vehicle area outside. Using the pipes and letting the cars drive down. We have been learning about sharing and taking turns with the cars.
