Dear Parents/Carers,
What a quick half term the last one was! The children have been an absolute credit to themselves during the last half term, in particular when our special visitor, Ed Miliband, came into the class to talk to the children about British Values. The children asked a number of question on issues varying from Fortnite to nuclear weapons! The children even received a special mention on Ed Miliband’s facebook page.
The children have worked extremely hard to dig and plant all the vegetables in the allotment and are looking forward to serving up some gastronomic delights during their express event! The children produced lots of fantastic examples of writing linked to the topic last half term, including a set of instructions and also produced their own episode of Gardener’s World.
During next half term the children will continue with this topic and will be focusing more so on the science behind how plants grow.
In English we will be writing some descriptive pieces based on our work for Carnival and writing linked to the class text – The Secret Garden. In Maths the children will be learning about shapes, volume and converting units of measurement. Following on from last half term the children will be learning about Christianity in RE.
Our PE days will be on Monday, this can change due to any unforeseen circumstances so we ask for children to have their PE kit in school all week. This should include outdoor trainers and kit. The children will continue to swim on a Wednesday afternoon. Please could you ensure that the children have long hair tied back and any earrings and nail varnish removed.
Home learning tasks will continue to be sent home on a Friday. This should be completed across the week and returned to school on Thursday. It would be really appreciated if you could encourage the children to read at least three times a week and return the reading records to school on a daily basis.
The final summer term is a very busy one, with sports days, express events and reports. Please check the school website and app for all the latest and up to date information. Thank you once again for your continued support and we look forward to working with you and your child this half term.
Mr Taylor, Mrs Langley, Mrs Parkinson and Mrs Millar.
