Summer 1 welcome from Mr Taylor.
It was lovely to meet lots of you on parents evening and share with you your child’s early progress. The children have come back into class keen to share stories of what they have done during their Easter holiday! I would like to thank you for helping produce some of the amazing home learning challenges.
This term we are learning about the topic ‘Alchemy Island’. This topic has a strong focus on science and geography. We will be conducting chemistry experiments, studying ordnance survey maps and solving riddles to name a few activities.
In English we will be focusing on narrative and will be looking to use a high level of vocabulary whilst also ensuring that the basic rules of writing are ALWAYS being adhered to. In Reading we will be studying the text ‘Coraline’ and will be working hard to advance our ability to infer information from a text.
In Mathematics we will be looking at decimals, fractions, percentages and later we will be moving on to the property of shapes. It would also be beneficial for the children to access the TT Rockstars app where they can consolidate and improve their instant recall of the times tables.
As a school, the expectation is for your child to read 3 times a week with an adult. This should be recorded on the home learning sheets each week. This is really important in order to maintain your child’s reading stamina.
The children will continue to go swimming on a Wednesday afternoon this term, with PE lesson taking place with Mr Goddard on alternate Fridays. Year 5 homework will be issued on Fridays and should be returned by Thursday the following week when the spelling test will take place.
We look forward to working with you and your child this term. Thank you for your continued support.
