Learning to shine together

Year 3

Summer 1 Welcome from Mrs Kehoe.

Welcome back. I hope you had a lovely Easter holiday. The children clearly enjoyed it. They have been telling me all about the exciting things they have been doing over the holidays. It sounds like they had a great time and really loved the Easter Bunny’s visit.

We have had a great start to this half term, everyone has come back from the holiday refreshed and ready for learning. Everyone seems to be really enjoying our current topic of Tribal Tales. I have had some really super home learning challenges. Thank you for your continued support with this.

This term we will be looking at early life in Britain starting with the Stone Age through to the Bronze and Iron Age. They will be learning about what life was like for people in early Britain and comparing it to now, they will be researching why people settled in certain places in Britain, they will have a go at cave painting and designing their own round houses. They will be even having a look at what an Iron Age diet looked like.

In English we are currently learning about how Spartan boys lived and the training they under went in the Spartan Army. The aim is for he children to write their own diary as a Spartan boy. We will then be moving on to Greek mythology and the children will be able to create their own comic strips based on a variety of Greek myths. They could even create their own myths.

This term the children will now to have PE on a Tuesday afternoon with myself, this will allow the children to use the hall on a more regular basis. They will then have a double session every other Thursday with our sports specialist, Mr Goddard. They will also continue to do the daily mile in the afternoon. PE kits should be sent into school on a Monday. On the Thursday that the children do not have PE they will have RE with Miss Yates, this will be taught with a cross curricular approach which will involve the children doing a number of different activities.

Home learning this term will continue as it did last half term. The children will have a week to learn their spellings, spelling test will remain on a Friday. Maths, English and Reading home learning will still be sent home on a Friday and should be returned by the Wednesday. This will be brought home in their special home learning bag.

We recognise children love to read a wide variety of texts and in order to really promote a love of reading the children can once again choose their own main reading book. Reading, just 10 minutes a day, has a real impact on children’s learning. To encourage the children to read as much as possible we will be running a reading challenge in class.

We look forward to working with your children this half term.
