Welcome to Year 5!
Firstly, we would like to thank everyone that attended parents evening, it is always a pleasure to share with you the progress that your child is making in school.
It is certainly hard to believe we are now half way through the year. Last half term was certainly packed full of learning and experiences. We are extremely proud of the effort the children showed during their work last half and how well the children have represented the class both in and outside of school.
This half term we will continue with ‘Stargazers’ as our topic. So far during this topic the children have produced some amazing work. Before talking about the work, I would like to give a special mention to the children for the exemplary behaviour which they displayed on the trip to the National Space Centre. The children were a credit to themselves and it was my pleasure to take them on the trip, the children gained so much from going on the trip and speak with real enthusiasm every time the trip is mentioned in class. There are lots of photos on the class web page from the trip in case you haven’t managed to look at them all ready. The trip has inspired some amazing work relating to space, the children have written stories set in space and really enjoyed writing a diary as Neil Armstrong on the day he landed on the moon.
In Maths the children have been, and continue to work really hard on fractions. This is a really tricky topic in Maths but the children are all showing real determination and resilience to overcome the challenges! Later on in the half term the children will move onto look at decimals and percentages which will build on the work they have been doing on fractions. It is worth noting at this point that all this work is underpinned by the children’s timetables knowledge, this is a skill that needs to be constantly revisited, both at school and at home and we really appreciate your support in this area.
The children have made a successful start to their swimming lessons on a Wednesday afternoon. With every child happily getting into the water and listening carefully to the instructions of the swimming teacher.
