Year 3 2018 to 2019
Welcome to Year 3 Teacher: Miss Cull HLTA: Mrs Kilby
Is your child a budding writer? This competition by the Book People to write a Bedtime Story may be of interest to you! Please follow the link here.
Welcome to Year 3, and Key Stage 2! We have lots of exciting learning planned, and hope that you will support your children in the new learning challenges they face this year.
This term our topic will be Predator! This topic has a science focus on animals and plants– inside and out! Our class novel this half term is Fantastic Mr Fox, which I’m sure the children will love! Our author in focus will of course be Roald Dahl and I have stocked the class library with lots of his books for the children to be able to read during Right to Read. The children can also borrow 1 book from the class library. Please support your child with reading as much as possible, we will be continuing the Reading Reward system they had in Year 2, but this will now be launched across the whole school– so make sure to be logging any reading– remember, it doesn't have to be a novel, non-fiction or poetry are also fabulous choices which can support your child’s learning across the curriculum.
Throughout this term we will be focusing on the basic skills across the curriculum and preparing the children for the high expectations of a Year 3 class! We will be practicing spelling and handwriting in particular to really improve our presentation and produce some creative published pieces which I hope the children will be proud to show you! In Maths for the first half of the term we will be building on the work of Year 2 with place value and addition/subtraction. We will also be focusing on times tables and the Key Instant Recall facts. In English we will be designing leaflets; practicing our computing skills by researching online and creating digital presentations. We will also continue the work on poems which we started during transition week.
The children will have double PE every Friday. Please make sure that they bring their kit and take it home at the weekend. As well as this we will be continuing the Daily Mile every afternoon. We will now be competing across the school for class rewards during the Achievers Assembly!
Homework will be given on Fridays and should be completed by Thursday of the next week, please support us by filling in your child’s reading record with your signature.
We look forward to working with you and your child this year! Thank you for your support.
