Year 3 2018 to 2019
Welcome to Year 3 Teacher: Miss Cull TAs: Mrs Kilby & Mrs Jones
Year 3 Homelearning
Homelearning will be issued on Fridays.
Children will be expected to complete:
Check out some of our Home Learning for the new topic! Can you guess what it is?
I can hardly believe it is the Spring term already! I hope you all had a lovely time with your friends and family. I’ve been so impressed with all of the amazing topic challenge learning the children have done over the holidays! Check out the website for photos.
This term sees the children embark on a brand new learning journey called ‘Tremors of the Gods and Mortals’. This topic is centred round Ancient Greece and sees the children explore many exciting and engaging activities across the curriculum. In particular the children will focus on history, geography, and art & design. Any donations of old materials for our art projects would be great- we need newspaper or similar (brown wrapping paper?) for one of our Engage events next week!
Our author in focus will be Maz Evans, and our class novel is Who Let The Gods Out? Well done to the lucky winner of the Term 2 Reading challenge who picked a fantastic new book to take home! Please support your child with reading as much as possible, we will be continuing the Reading Rewards and have changed the home learning sheets to include TTRockstars and Spelling Shed. These are more in-line with the rest of Key Stage 2 as the children have now settled into Year 3. Please encourage your children to take ownership of this new home learning tracker.
In Maths this half term we will continue with multiplication and division and also spend time looking at money and statistics. The Key Instant Recall facts for this half term are all based around duration of time. It would be great to see children with watches, and have access to wall calendars at home where they can really start to understand duration of time.
In English, the children will be working hard to develop their knowledge and skills in a variety of genres. These include newspaper reports and a historical narrative. In addition, they will continue to develop their spelling, punctuation, grammar and handwriting skills.
As during the previous term, PE is on Mondays. Please make sure that children bring their kit on Monday and take it home at the weekend. As well as this we will be continuing the Daily Mile every afternoon.
This half term we are delighted to have the support of Mrs Kilby and Mrs Jones in our class. Please do not hesitate to contact any of us if you would like more information about what is happening in Year 3 this half term. You can also check the website for updates to our timetable.

Lest We Forget
Here comes Christmas! How exciting to be involved in the KS2 choir concert this year for the first time. We have some lovely singers and I’m sure all the children will really enjoy performing.
I’ve been so impressed with all of the amazing RE challenge learning the children have done over the half-term. Check out the photos!
This half term we will be continuing with our topic Predator! Our author in focus will be Mr. King-Smith, and our class novel is The Sheep Pig, you may be more familiar with the movie version– Babe. Well done to the lucky winner of the Term 1 Reading challenge! Please support your child with reading as much as possible, we will be continuing the Reading Rewards and everyone was very excited about the brand new books that are on offer as prizes! We haven’t quite managed to win the weekly whole school competition yet- so make sure to be logging any reading– remember, it doesn't have to be a novel; I love that some children are using magazines, recipes and other interesting things to practise their reading skills!
I have been very impressed with our learning in Maths last half term– we will be moving onto subtracting and then multiplying and dividing. We have some Times tables wizzes! As you will notice the Key Instant Recall facts for this half term are all based on the 3 Times tables.
In English we will be moving onto narrative writing and focusing on trying to add in the Year 3/4 statutory spelling words.
As I hope you are now aware, PE has been changed to Mondays. Please make sure that childen bring their kit on Monday and take it home at the weekend. As well as this we will be continuing the Daily Mile every afternoon. I would encourage children to bring ‘outdoor’ shoes as the weather declines so that they can keep one pair of shoes dry. I will make sure we have a space to store them.
Well Done to everyone who has tried so hard on TTrockstars and Spelling Shed, keep up the great work and please support us by filling in your child’s reading record with your signature.
This half term we are delighted to have the support of Mrs Hill and Mrs Jones in our class. Please do not hesitate to contact any of us if you would like more information about what is happening in Year 3 this half term
