Learning to shine together

Reception 2018 to 2019

A very warm welcome to Reception's class page!

Class Information

Teacher: Miss Shelton

Teaching Assistants: Mrs Peace and Mrs Herczeg

Our Current Topic

Our topic this half term is ‘Winter.’ We will be learning all about the Polar Regions as well as the seasonal changes in our country. You never know… we might even get a little bit of snow over the next few weeks!  (Here’s hoping!)  Why not visit the local library or spend time researching about winter?
Following the excitement of our last topic, Let's Celebrate, we will also be learning about Chinese New Year later in the half term.

Key Dates - Spring 1 Half Term

Some key dates for this half term:

  • Beauty and the Beast Pantomime - Thursday 10th January
  • Arctic Animal Day (dress up) - Monday 14th January

More information will be sent out about these events nearer to the time.

Parental Engagement

Working in partnership with parents is central to the Early Years Foundation Stage.  Regularly discussing your child’s learning and achievements from in and out of school will enable us to have a much broader picture of your child’s development.

There are many ways in which we can share information...

  • you can speak with your child's Key Person or the class teacher,
  • you can share observations on 2Simple,
  • you can complete a 'Proud Moment' slip and
  • we will regularly share with you your child's learning journey and share with you their next steps in learning and development.

Read With Me

We would like to invite parents/carers into class to read with their child each Friday morning until 8.40am.  It would be lovely if you’re able to join us.  You can find some photos of Read With Me sessions in the gallery below.

Reception have P.E. each Wednesday morning and will need full P.E. kit (black shorts, white t-shirt and pumps/trainers).

Home Learning

Children will be given two reading books to read at home each week.  In Foundation Stage, we encourage parents/carers to read with their child every day, even just for 5-10 minutes.

A small amount of phonics homework will be sent home on a Thursday with some phonemes and words to practice reading.

Children will also be given topic challenges to complete with you at home.
