Learning to shine together

Nursery 2018 to 2019

Welcome to Foundation Stage 1! It has been so lovely meeting you all again and getting to know your children even more this week and last week, for some children. Thank you for helping your children come into the classroom and settle so quickly. I can’t believe how calm and relaxed it has felt. We will continue to complete ‘Early Bird Activities’ in our learning bay during the settling in time.

Foundation Stage 1 is such an exciting time for the children and the start of their journey into school. Our first topic in the Foundation Stage Unit is ‘People Who Help Us’. We will be focussing on people at home, school and in our community who help us. Your child will experience stimulating and engaging activities covering a wide range of learning both inside and outside the unit through the continuous provision, adult-initiated small group and large group learning. We will endeavour to plan learning and provision around the children’s interests. We have also invited some special visitors into school to help us learn more about our topic.

Start time for F1

Please wait until 8.30 to bring your Nursery (F1) children into school. The register is taken promptly at 8.40. The doors open at 8.20 to allow time for the Reception (F2) children to enter school first and register at 8.30 like the rest of school.

Home Learning

From Monday 17th, we will have a book box for you to select a book for children to share with you at home. These will be out on the table every morning for you to change as and when your child would like to. There will also be a sheet with your child’s name on to record when you have taken a ‘Share-a-book’. Please place these books straight in your child’s book bag to share at home and return when you are ready to.

Children will also be given topic challenges to complete with you at home.

Parental Engagement

Working in partnership with parents is central to the Early Years Foundation Stage. Regularly discussing your child’s learning and achievements from in and out of school will enable us to have a much broader picture of your child’s development.

A letter to all Foundation Stage parents/carers will be sent home soon with details of how information can be shared along with key worker details.

Outdoor Learning

Our outside area will be available to the children in all weathers. This means that they will need to come to school with appropriate clothing for outdoor learning. During autumn and winter, children will need a warm, waterproof coat, a hat, scarf and gloves and suitable shoes for outside (such as wellies—which can be stored at school). During the warmer months, particularly in summer, children will need sun cream applying before school and will need to bring a sun hat.

Read With Me

We would like to invite parents/carers into class to read with their child each Friday morning until 8.40am. It would be lovely if you’re able to join us.

Water bottles, book bags and uniform

Please send your child to school with a water bottle. Please ensure water bottles, book bags, outdoor shoes and uniform are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Photos from our learning so far this year...

Firefighter Visit - 24/09/18

Firefighter Taylor came to visit us to tell us all about what she does. She helped us to learn more about our topic 'People Who Help Us'. We were a bit shy at first but we loved trying on the firefighter helmet.

Bedtime Reading Event - 16.10.18

Our children were invited back to school in their pyjamas for an exciting evening of reading.  The children enjoyed a range of texts with stimulating activities to support story telling.

We even had hot chocolate with marshmallows!

Here's some feedback from the evening...

"A fab idea!"

"My child loved it!"

"We will introduce more props to our bedtime stories."

"[It gave us] ideas for interacting and discussing, not just reading."

"Looking forward to the next one!"
