Foundation Stage 2
Welcome from Miss Taylor
Firstly, I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to F2 and introduce myself as their new teacher for the next academic year. It has been lovely to meet some of you already during the transition days in the summer term. I look forward to meeting more of you in the weeks to come and having the opportunity over the year to together to ensure your child’s journey through F2 is a smooth one. It has been lovely to get to know the children in the few days and they all look so smart!
F2 holds many exciting opportunities and this half-term our topic is called “Do you want to be friends?” Your child will experience stimulating and engaging activities covering a wide range of subjects within the unit and in our new outside area. This Cornerstones topic will look at friendship, people who help us and working together. Our class text this term linking to our new topic is called Rainbow Fish. The children will also be introduced to a number of fiction and non-fiction texts as well to enhance their learning opportunities.
In Maths, the children will be learning about number, counting and shapes this half term. For Communication, Language and Literacy, the children will learn four letter sounds a week and will be introduced to word blending and segmenting from an early stage; we use the Letters and Sounds scheme to implement this.
Home Learning: This will be sent out every Friday. It will consist of different activities which may be in a their Learning Log (Purple book), parent booklet or an activity sheet.
Share a book: We will change these in class on a Thursday.
Reading Books: These will be changed weekly (Friday) This will start in the next few weeks.
PE: PE will be on a Thursday, please bring the appropriate kit. This information can be found on the uniform policy.
Proud Parent slips: In order to help us collect evidence, in the coat area Proud Parent slips are available for you to fill out. These slips enable you to show us what your child can do
independently at home. Once you have filled out your slip, could you please hand it back to us by putting it in your child’s book bag or put it in the completed parent slips wallet on the wall to show us your child’s achievements.
Water bottles, uniform and PE kit: Please ensure you bring a water bottle to school for your child, with their name clearly labelled on the bottle. I would encourage you to clearly label your child’s clothes as we want to minimise the amount of missing clothing.
Settling in: To help the children settle with their learning quickly, please may we request that you leave the classroom promptly to avoid any children becoming upset. If you wish to speak in the morning, Mrs Peace is available at this time and you may book an appointment with myself at a more convenient time.
I look forward to working with you and your child throughout this academic year.
