Foundation Stage 1
Welcome from Mrs Kay
Date: 12th January 2018.
Welcome to back to Foundation Stage 1! We hope that you and your children have all had a lovely, relaxing Christmas holiday. We had an absolutely fantastic first term in Foundation Stage 1 learning all about being friends and what happens when we fall asleep. We are looking forward to spending two smaller half terms learning all about our new exciting topic.
Thank you for all the parental support during autumn term. The children learning journeys are being supported by the hard work you are putting in at home, including completing the children’s learning logs with them, parental feedback sheets and proud parent slips. These have made a huge difference to showing the children’s individual journey of learning.
Our Spring term topic in the Foundation Stage Unit is from the Cornerstones topic ‘Why do ladybirds have spots?’ Your child will experience stimulating and engaging activities covering a wide range of learning both inside and outside the unit through the continuous provision, adult-initiated small group and large group learning. We will endeavour to plan learning and provision around the children’s interests. This topic has an ‘Understanding the world’ focus but will draw on all areas of the Early Years curriculum.
In Maths, we will be focusing on numbers, length, weight, height and capacity. In Communication, Language and Literacy, we will be sharing a range of texts. We will begin with ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’. In Personal, Social and Emotional development, we will be continuing to make relationships with other children and learn how to be friends with different children. In Understanding the World, we will be looking at a range of different mimibeasts and their habitats. We will explore growth and change, including looking at life-cycles and growing plants. In Expressive Arts and Design, we will be exploring different materials and media linked to ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ to begin with.
Notices: Home Learning: Today, the children have received their Learning Log. This book asks the children to complete learning (in their own way) to introduce a topic. These will be sent out to begin our new topics (approximately once every half term). You may also receive parent leaflets with ideas for activities to try at home within the topic learning.
Proud Parent Slips: We recognise that children not only learn at school but that they are on a constant learning journey in and out of school. If you are particularly proud of something your child has done, said or that you have observed please use the Proud Parent slips to tell us about it. We will use these to support out evidence collection and it will be placed in the children’s learning journey.
Water bottles, book bags and uniform: Please send your child to school with a water bottle. Please ensure water bottles, book bags and uniform is clearly labelled with your child’s name.
2Simple You will have received a letter this week explaining about our new, exciting software called 2Simple. This is now being used to record your children’s learning journeys. You should have received a letter about this this week.
We look forward to continuing to work with you and your child throughout this exciting first year in school. Thank you, Mrs Kay, Mrs Millington and Mrs Norman.
