Foundation Stage 1

Welcome from Mrs Kay

Welcome to Foundation Stage 1! It has been so lovely meeting you all again and getting to know your children even more today, and last week for some children. Thank you for helping your children come into the classroom and settle so quickly. I can’t believe how calm and relaxed it has felt. We will continue to read and share books in our learning bay during the settling in time.

Foundation Stage 1 is such an exciting time for the children and the start of their journey into school. Our first topic in the Foundation Stage Unit is from the Cornerstones topic ‘Do you want to be friends?’. Your child will experience stimulating and engaging activities covering a wide range of learning both inside and outside the unit through the continuous provision, adult-initiated small group and large group learning. We will endeavour to plan learning and provision around the children’s interests. Our Unit text this half term will be ‘Rainbow Fish’. We will also introduce a number of other fiction and non-fiction books to enhance this topic.

In Maths, we will be focusing on basic number, counting and shape. In Communication, Language and Literacy, we will be talking about ourselves and our families. We will be showing good listening to our friends and adults in the setting. In Personal, Social and Emotional development, we will be making relationships with other children and learning how to be friends. We will be getting to know our familiar adults. In Understanding the World, we will be exploring our new setting and role-playing in the Aquarium. We will learn about our new friends. In Expressive Arts and Design, we will be exploring different materials and media linked to the Rainbow Fish. We will learn about colour mixing.

From Tuesday 12th September, we will have a book box for you to select a book for children to share with you at home. These will be out on the table every morning for you to change as and when your child would like to. There will also be a sheet with your child’s name on to record when you have taken a ‘Share-a-book’. Please place these books straight in your child’s book bag to share at home and return when you are ready to.

To clarify, photographs taken at school involving other children and pupils is not permitted for us on any social media networking site. If you have any queries in regards to photographs at school, please contact the school office.

Notices:

Home Learning: On Friday, the children will receive their Learning Log. This book asks the children to complete learning (in their own way) to introduce a topic. These will be sent out to begin our new topics (approximately once every half term). You may also receive parent leaflets with ideas for activities to try at home.

Proud Parent Slips: We recognise that children not only learn at school but that they are on a constant learning journey in and out of school. If you are particularly proud of something your child has done, said or that you have observed please use the Proud Parent slips to tell us about it. We will use these to support out evidence collection and it will be placed in the children’s learning journey.

Water bottles, book bags and uniform: Please send your child to school with a water bottle. Please ensure water bottles, book bags and uniform is clearly labelled with your child’s name.

We look forward to working with you and your child throughout this exciting first year in school.
